100 Walkways mapped!

December 14, 2017

The Trust is delighted to confirm that 100 Commonwealth Walkways have now been drafted, at least one for every Commonwealth nation and territory.

The last of the routes to be mapped was Christmas Island, in the Indian Ocean, where an 8km draft route connects seven points of significance in the capital Flying Fish on an island which is largely national park and a population of around 2,000.

The total network of Walkways provides nearly 1,000km of walkable path and connects 1,500 points of significance.   Just over half of these special places are either important heritage sites and monuments or valued landmarks and views with a further 18% galleries and museums; 16% parks and open spaces; and 12% places of worship.

The Commonwealth Points of Significance Database will be developed further in the new year and communities, companies and governments then invited to 'sponsor a marker'.
