Trust Chairman Hugo Vickers never misses an opportunity to enjoy a city on foot. On a recent trip to Montreal, to visit a friend, Hugo took an extra couple of days to go for a walk and plan a potential Walkway.
Canada already has a Commonwealth Walkway, spectacularly unveiled by Baroness Scotland and Lt Governor Lois Mitchel in Alberta earlier in the year, however a number of other Canadian cities have approached the Trust interested in getting a Walkway too and we welcome any approach.
Hugo didn't get the opportunity to meet the Mayor or any officials during his brief visit, to discuss the potential path, but was impressed by how much there is to see and how walkable the city felt.
Meanwhile, the Trust has been in discussion with the convenors of ' The Great Trail' in Canada which, rather amazingly, connects all 13 Provinces and Territories with a 24,000km route. The Commonwealth Walkway in Banff is happily already connected by the Trans Canadian route and potentially the Montreal one would be too....how many more Commonwealth routes might we inspire in the capitals to get more of our Canadian family walking more?
