To mark this exceptional anniversary, and as a gift to the people of Windsor, the Outdoor Trust has created The Queen’s Walkway, a 6.37 km route round the town of Windsor, which will be installed by 9 September.
On Friday 20 March, at 2pm, the Governor of Windsor Castle, Admiral Sir James Perowne, kindly formally unveiled the very first of the 63 proposed markers outside the Henry VIII Gateway of Windsor Castle, in the company of Hugo Vickers, Chairman of the Outdoor Trust.
Hugo Vickers, Trust Chairman, said “I am very pleased that the route is now coming to fruition and will give Windsorians the chance to view this first marker. Over the next months, the other markers will be placed around the route, and finally a panoramic panel will be unveiled, explaining what the route is and highlighting special iconic views of Windsor”.
Kerry O’Callaghan, Vice President, Global Brand, GSK said, “GSK are delighted to be able to help support this unique project, which will encourage people to get out and enjoy more of Windsor, keep active and celebrate our longest reigning monarch”.
The Mayor and Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead support the project.
