Commonwealth Walkway's welcomed in Canada

February 24, 2015

The Secretary to The Governor General of Canada and Herald Chancellor of Canada, Stephen Wallace, welcomed the initiative at a meeting with The Canadian Secretary to The Queen Kevin MacLeod CVO and National Capital Commission Executive Director Gary Lacey and Director of Transportation Fred Gasbar.

A number of opportunities to dedicate Commonwealth Walkways across Canada were discussed and there was a general enthusiasm to connect Commonwealth Walkway plans to the 150th anniversary of Independence in 2017 and  mark the moment Her Majesty becomes Britain’s longest reigning monarch on 9th September 2015.

A 5km potential Commonwealth Walkway was drafted in Ottawa connecting more than a dozen iconic points of interest in the City as an initial idea for the capital.

The Secretary to The Governor General received the first marker from the Trust and invited the Trust to come back to discuss the Commonwealth Walkway project in more detail in the very near future.
