Cook Islands consider Commonwealth Walkway as part of the 50th anniversary of independence celebrations

The Queen’s Representative of The Cook Islands, His Excellency Tom Marsters, welcomed the initiative at a meeting with Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee President Hugh Graham. 


The Trust held further meetings with The President of the House of Ariki, Kaumaiti Tou Ariki, representing the paramount chiefs of the Cook Islands, the Cook Islands Tourism Association, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sport.


A 2.5km potential Commonwealth Walkway was drafted connecting  15 iconic points of interest in the main town of Avarua.


The Queen’s Representative received the first marker from the Trust and discussed the potential for the route to be dedicated as soon as 4th August 2015 when the Cook Islands will be celebrating 50 years of Independence.
